We are pleased to welcome back Je M’appelle Artistry to the blog! They were featured in May this year with a gorgeous medieval princess themed session and now bring us a beautiful newborn session. I have to admit, I’m usually not too keen on black and white (technically grayscale) portrait photography but this particular newborn session seems to be even more stunning in b/w! New/rookie photographers can learn a lot by paying attention to the composition in these images and always keep in mind the rule of thirds. Notice that in many of these images, showing the entire subject would actually distract you from the focus of the shot.
I decided to go against the grain with my newborn photography. I have tried to follow trends and been dissatisfied with the results. The latest newborn trends are riddled with props, over the top clothing and beautiful hand knits….also the trend of putting babies in weird places. While there is certainly a place for that type of photographic art, it is not my style….
It took some courage and confidence for me to go out there as say “I am going to do this MY way…and hope they like it…”
I seriously love babies. And when my littles were little, I remember staring at all of their parts. Loving them. Kissing them. Up close…skin to skin. My kids were all summer babies, so they were naked or just in diapers when they were infants. So I remember all of their soft, fuzzy, peely baby skin….I had to capture that for this family.
I was determined to capture the essence of the beautiful babymoon…..
