On location newborn session

From Eva Baker Photography:

OK so I’m probably a little biased, but I really loved this session. This family has been with me for a few years and it was such an honor to photograph their newest baby girl. I usually shoot newborn sessions in my studio, but they have a toddler and mom thought it would be easier to shoot in their home.

Lucky for me, their windows were floodgates for beautiful natural light. I used to shoot all my newborn sessions in home and found that it was too much of a gamble – how would the lighting be? Would the home be clean and free of clutter? Would their wall paint reflect color back on the baby? So before I headed to their home, I made sure to coordinate with the mom, asked lots of questions about the room we’d be using, and then brought props that went along with their decor.

My style is important (that’s why they hired me after all) but if the images don’t match their decor, chances are their walls won’t be decked out in my photos. It ended up working out great and the little boy was clearly more comfortable being in his own home. I let him see my camera once in a while to keep him going – that tends to work on a lot of little kids! We didn’t manage to wrangle him for tons of photos – but a few great shots is all it takes to make mom and dad happy.
